Tangent is a software application that provides access to third-party artificial intelligence language models. The responses generated by these AI models are for informational and entertainment purposes only. Nothing produced by Tangent or its AI models constitutes professional advice of any kind, including but not limited to:
Tangent is not a therapist, counselor, psychologist, or mental health professional. The AI models accessible through Tangent have not been trained as clinical tools, are not licensed practitioners, and cannot provide therapy, diagnosis, or treatment for any mental health condition.
Using Tangent to process emotions, journal, or explore personal topics can be a helpful complement to professional care — but it is not a replacement for it. If you are experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, or any other mental health challenge, please seek support from a qualified professional.
AI responses may sometimes appear empathetic, insightful, or therapeutic. This is a characteristic of how language models are trained — not evidence of clinical competence. Do not make mental health decisions based solely on AI responses.
If you are in crisis, please reach out immediately:

BetterHelp — online therapy with licensed therapists
NAMI — National Alliance on Mental Illness resources and support groups
The AI models used by Tangent (including GPT-4o, Claude, and Gemini) are powerful but imperfect. They can and do produce responses that are:
Tangent includes an optional Accuracy Check feature that runs a second AI review of responses to flag potentially unverified claims. This feature is intended to encourage critical thinking — it is not a guarantee of accuracy and should not be treated as fact-checking by a qualified expert.
Always verify important information with qualified professionals and authoritative sources before acting on it.
Tangent is not an emergency service. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, do not use Tangent — call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. Tangent does not monitor conversations in real time, does not dispatch emergency services, and cannot contact anyone on your behalf.
By using Tangent, you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for how you interpret and act on AI-generated responses. You agree not to use Tangent as a substitute for professional advice in any domain where such advice is warranted. Tangent and its operators expressly disclaim all liability for any harm, loss, or damage arising from reliance on AI-generated content.
Tangent routes your messages to third-party AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google). Each provider operates independently and has its own terms of service and content policies. Tangent does not control the outputs of these models and is not responsible for content generated by them.
Tangent includes an automated crisis detection system that monitors for language patterns associated with self-harm or crisis situations. When such patterns are detected, the app will display crisis resources (988, Crisis Text Line) to the user. This system is imperfect and may miss crisis situations or produce false positives. It is not a substitute for human monitoring or professional intervention.
Tangent does not store the content of flagged messages or share user message content with third parties for moderation purposes, except as required by law.
Tangent is operated independently. For general information about the operator, visit esgrounding.com. For questions about this disclaimer or the app, contact us through the app.
